Happy New Year, friends! There’s something undeniably refreshing about stepping into a new year with a clean slate—and for me, that clean slate started right in my own office. When we first moved in, I couldn’t quite get my office to feel right. The setup wasn’t flowing, and so I never really decorated or made it my own. But that all changed! Over the holidays, I decided it was time to give my creative workspace a much-needed facelift, and wow, has it sparked a whole new level of inspiration!
Let me share how a simple rearrangement helped me find my creativity again and might inspire you to reimagine your own space.
Why the Change?
As a designer, my workspace is a direct reflection of my energy. Over time, though, it became less of a haven for creativity and more of a cluttered, uninspiring mess. I realized my office setup wasn’t supporting how I work or how I want to feel while working.
The start of the new year was the perfect excuse to dive in, move furniture, clear the clutter, and intentionally design a space that sparks joy and focus.
The Process
Here’s how I approached my office refresh:
1. Clear Everything Out
The first step was to remove almost everything. Yes, it was chaotic for a while, but starting with a blank canvas gave me clarity.
2. Define the Purpose
I thought about how I wanted my office to feel and function. For me, that meant:
• A sewing table to provide my sewing machine it own designated space.
• A tech-friendly desk area where I can sketch patterns, do computer work and admin tasks.
• A cutting and ironing station with plenty of space for storing the tools I need at hand.
3. Choose Functional Furniture
I rearranged my desk to face the window—natural light is such a mood booster! I also added storage solutions to keep tools and fabric neatly tucked away but within reach.
4. Add Personal Touches
I hung past mini quilts, FPP projects, plants, and even framed photos of my fabric collections. Every piece I added makes me smile and reminds me why I love creating.
The Result
Since reworking my office, I’ve felt a newfound energy every time I sit down to work. Ideas seem to flow more freely, and I’m able to focus better. Whether I’m sketching a new quilt pattern, sewing sample pieces, or planning my next blog post, this space now feels like a true reflection of my creative spirit.
Why Your Space Matters
Your surroundings impact your mindset more than you might realize. If you’ve been feeling stuck or uninspired, consider giving your workspace a refresh. You don’t need a full renovation—even small changes like rearranging furniture or adding a plant can breathe new life into your space.
What’s Next?
With this fresh start, I’m more excited than ever for the projects ahead. I can’t wait to bring you more quilt patterns, sewing tips, and maybe even a few peeks behind the scenes in my new office.
